2021 is special year for the Order of Malta in Lithuania. This year the Order of Malta Relief organization in Lithuania is celebrating its 30th birthday!

President of the Order of Malta Relief organization Mr. Bronius Einars informed Ambassador that the main celebrations of Malteser Lithuania 30th anniversary are planned on the 10-11th of September, 2021.

Lithuanian Maltesers are expecting arrival of their many dear friends and partners from Germany, Italy, Austria and many other countries.

Lithuanian Order of Malta Relief organization started its work in the country after Lithuania regained its independence. Following the collapse of the Soviet Union, many Western Europeans, especially the German Maltesers, felt sympathy and helped the Lithuanian people.

They sent their delegations to Lithuania to check the situation in the country and provide assistance in many forms. The Maltesers officially began their work in Lithuania in the autumn of 1991, when the Order of Malta Relief organization was established.

As of today, the organization helps people experiencing social and economic exclusion, the disabled and the elderly, organizes charity events and social projects, and takes care of several day care centers.

Over the past 30 years, the organization has achieved a lot. Currently, there are 42 Malteser groups operating in Lithuanian towns and cities around the country and approximately 1,500 volunteers. The Maltesers currently care for about 2,600 seniors, take care of 5 senior clubs and two senior day care centers. In addition, there are currently 16 Malteser children’s day care centres.

Despite the pandemic, the organization managed to successfully organize the 15th charity campaign “Maltese Soup” last year.
