President Dalia Grybauskaitė received letters of credence from the Ambassador of the Order of Malta, Manfred Leo Mautner Markhof.

At the meeting, the President and the new Ambassador discussed the Order of Malta’s activities in Lithuania and key support projects. According to the President, Lithuania highly values humanitarian and social assistance provided by the Order of Malta Relief Organization since 1991 as it works in 44 cities and towns of Lithuania, unites over 1.5 thousand volunteers and promotes the principles of volunteering and social responsibility.

The Order of Malta is a partner of the social campaign “For a Safe Lithuania” initiated by the President. It jointly participates in social campaigns, initiates the establishment of new day centers and promotes support for disadvantaged children. Dalia Grybauskaitė is also a patron of the Order of Malta’s project to support the Lithuanian Righteous Among the Nations who rescued Jews.

At the meeting with the new Ambassador, the President underscored that it was paramount to continue the ongoing and new activities and expressed a strong hope that the cooperation agreement between Lithuania and the Order of Malta signed last year would give a momentum for further bilateral work.
