The Prime Minister of Lithuania: The activities of the Order of Malta were and are important to the people of Lithuania

Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis met with the Ambassador of the Order of Malta to Lithuania Manfred Ritter Mautner von Markhof and discussed the prospects for further co-operation.

“The Order of Malta is a very important partner of Lithuania, which has helped to implement various support projects in the field of home care, fight against poverty and assistance to people affected by conflicts. The support of the Order to Lithuania, which was started only after the restoration of  the Lithuanian Independence, was extremely important for our state and its people, ”said the Prime Minister.

The visit of the Grand Chancellor of the Order of Malta to Vilnius in September 2017 was remembered during the meeting as well. The cooperation agreement between the Order of Lithuania and Malta signed during this visit opens up even more opportunities for meaningful activities.

S. Skvernelis emphasized the important contribution of the Maltesers to strengthening social welfare, reducing poverty and exclusion. This is one of the Lithuanian Government’s top priorities.

Prime Minister welcomed the growing number of joint social projects, promised that the government will give its contribution to them as well.

Maltesers programs  “Meals on Wheels”, “Voluntary Home care”, Children’s Day Centers and others provide daily assistance to the most vulnerable people in Lithuania.

The Ambassador conveyed to the Prime Minister the personal thanks of the Baron Albrecht von Boeselager, Grand Chancellor of the Order of Malta, for his excellent cooperation with the Order of Malta.
