July 2nd was the day of the solemn promise and the pledge to the Sovereign Order of Malta.

The place of the solemn promise and pledge to the Order of Malta was the glorious cathedral of the city of Vilkaviskis (located about 200 kilometers from Vilnius).

The Bishop of Vilkaviskis, H.E. Rimantas Norvila, agreed to celebrate a special Holy Mass and to bless participants in the ceremony of the solemn promise and the pledge.

Participants of the solemn promise came to Vilkaviskis not only from different Lithuanian cities and Malteser groups, but also from abroad as well. Mr. Anton Gatnar and H.E. Calice Graf Christoph arrived from Austria.

This year, more than two dozen Lithuanian Maltesers decided to take the solemn promise and the pledge to the Order of Malta. Among them were acting Secretary General of the Order of Malta Relief Organization to Lithuania (MOPT), Mr. Edvinas Regelskis, and members of the MOPT Presidium and MOPT local group leaders from different Lithuanian cities.

Member of the Order of Malta’s German Association Baron Constantin von Brandenstein was the chairman of the ceremony of the promise and pledge to the Order of Malta. As the senior member of the Order of Malta he accepted the Promise and the pledge from the name of the Sovereign Order of Malta.

After giving the pledge, participants of the promise ceremony received a welcoming handshake from all members of the Order of Malta and a special blessing from the Bishop of Vilkaviskis, H.E. Rimantas Norvila. Each participant also received a special badge and a copy of the just published “Prayer Book of the Order of Malta”.

After the Holy Mass and solemn promise and pledge, all participants of the ceremony gathered in the yard of the Cathedral to take a common photo with the foreign members of the Order of Malta and H.E. Bishop Rimantas Norvila.
